Þ The principle of self-help predominates until the Junior Member passes into the current Playing Membership - i.e. instruction and tuition falls on the parent rather than the Club coaches.

Þ Parents of Junior Members may hold a set of keys under the normal arrangements and use the courts with their Juniors when the premises are free outside of organised Club activities.

Þ Parents using the premises outside of organised Club activities are responsible for the security of the premises. (Details are in the Club Rules.) Parents of Juniors are not expected to undertake the supervision of other members at such times, unless they wish to do so on occasion voluntarily.

Þ Parents and Juniors may attend barbecues, Opening Day, the AGM and any social functions. When able to cope with playing points and games, attendance at timed tournaments and the Open Tournament is possible, also participation in the Club’s Box League. Attendance at Winter Sessions on most Saturday afternoons when the Supervision Rota is not operating is possible when numbers permit, which they usually do.

Þ Juniors may use the courts during ordinary Rota sessions only when they are completely free, i.e. there are no Playing Members wishing to make use of them. Full Playing Members must not get the impression that the minimum age for joining the Club has been lowered.

In conclusion, the Management Committee are sympathetic towards limited Junior Membership provided that it does not alter the perceived nature of the Club or further stretch limited resources. Junior Membership is able to provide a toe-hold into the Club for determined, enthusiastic youngsters wishing to gain experience of Lawn Tennis while still too young to join Summerway as a Playing Member. Junior Membership costs the same as full Playing Membership, but has considerably restricted benefits. For those wishing to take advantage of this privilege, please remember that the Club is responding to a need, not seeking to over-extend, and the best policy is to remain low-key about the issue.
