Visitors

Court time from April to September is rather limited except during the day time when school is out. Even so, the Club welcomes Visitors whenever possible, and provision is made for them in the Club Rules.

Visitors representing their own clubs at an East Devon League match where Summerway is at Home receive priority, and the courts are made available for that purpose. However, with the pressure on court time generated by the internal Box League, organised sessions and special activities, it is only possible to make restricted provision for Visitors otherwise.

The Rules allow a maximum of six visits by any one person and a maximum of six guest visits at the invitation of any one Summerway member. There is also a limit of one Visitor per court during play under normal circumstances. Visits are also encouraged for families with youngsters hoping to join the Club, and these are sometimes permitted to take part in an activity provided that it is suitable. The Club has also been experimenting with making regular, if infrequent, opportunities for those on the Waiting List to visit and take part in the fun and games Sessions which does not increase the heavy load borne by the Coaches.

Visitors are also welcome to attend Opening Day and any of the social events, but participation in court activities will depend on the overall situation regarding numbers and supervision.

Those on the Waiting List attending Summer or Winter Sessions are asked to contribute a small fee of 50p each time they attend. Apart from those who are genuinely visiting the Club once only as prospective members, there is a small charge of 30p per occasional visit. This nominal sum has remained the same for at least twenty years, and needs to find its way to the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer, probably via the Duty Rota Supervisor. It may well be that the Committee will wish to increase the Visitors’ Fee slightly at some stage.
