General
The following rules shall be strictly observed by all Members of the Club, as defined by Clauses 2 and 8 of the Constitution, and where applicable, by Visitors.
x
Use of Premises
The Club shall be opened for play during daylight hours throughout the year provided that a Duty Rota Supervisor, appointed by the Management Committee, or in his or her absence an appropriate responsible adult, is present.
No games other than Lawn Tennis may be played on the Courts.
Unreasonable behaviour, such as rowdy and noisy conduct, acts of vandalism or bullying, anywhere on the Club premises (defined as Courts, Pavilion and adjoining land leased by the Club), causing damage or likely to injure or cause annoyance to other people, including Members, Visitors and Neighbours, will result in the suspension of the Members concerned. If a Visitor is involved, he or she will be asked to leave the premises without repayment of fee.
Any damage to the Club premises or Club property must be reported at once, either to the Duty Rota Supervisor, Honorary Secretary or Member of the Committee (as defined in Clause 5 of the Constitution), by the person(s) responsible or by the person(s) discovering the damage.
No player will be allowed to play on the Courts unless wearing suitable tennis shoes without heels.
It is forbidden to jump over the nets.
No radios, tape recorders, etc. shall be used on the Club premises.
Dogs or other animals shall not normally be brought
to the Club premises. Those brought in exceptional
circumstances should be kept under strict control. The
Duty Rota Supervisor will ask custodians whose animals
cause a nuisance to remove them from the Club premises.
Smoking on the Club premises is strictly forbidden.
A supervising Adult must always be actually present on the premises whenever Playing Members are at the Club, whether in or out of ‘rota time’. Parents and Guardians must make this abundantly clear to all Playing Members. If a Duty Rota Supervisor is unable to supervise at the time allocated, arrangements should be made to exchange duties with another parent on the rota list. Duty Rota Supervisors should attend irrespective of weather conditions, if only to carefully inspect and ensure that the premises are secure and in order, and to sign the duty rota sheet in the supervisors’ folder, commenting if appropriate.
Duty Rota Supervisors or Supervising Adults are responsible for opening the Club on time, and to ensure on leaving the premises that:
(a) all taps are turned off and lights extinguished,
(b) all gates, doors and windows are locked or padlocked,
(c) all furniture and equipment is returned to the Pavilion,
(d) the immersion heater is switched off,
(e) the toilets and Pavilion are left tidy, and
(f) in Winter, the mains water stopcock is turned off.
Sets of Club Keys are issued for the sole use of Parents and Supervising Adults. They are not to be used by Playing Members.
x
Order of Play
Members (or Visitors) desiring to play shall upon arrival register their names in the book or on the sheets provided as appropriate. The Duty Rota Supervisor shall be responsible for ensuring that sets are satisfactorily organised consistent with the reasonable wishes of those wanting to play.
No adult is permitted to play on the Courts unless only one or three or five or seven Members are present, in which case an adult may be permitted to complement numbers. They should leave the Courts if the arrival of Members enables games to consist of Members only. Coaches are exempted from this rule.
Singles games are not permitted when there are more than four Members (or their Visitors) wishing to play.
Members attending the Club are expected to play when asked by the Duty Rota Supervisor, and not to use the Club solely as a meeting place.
Individual Members may book a Court for home matches in postal tournaments by displaying a notification of details on the Club notice board. One Court only may be used for this purpose at any one time, subject to the Courts not being required for a purpose of higher priority. Members should avoid bookings in ‘rota times’ whenever possible for obvious reasons.
Club and Box League matches take precedence over individual play.
x
Care of Equipment
Club tennis balls shall not be
removed from the premises,
except for Club Match purposes,
or as otherwise authorised by
the Management Committee.
x
No Player may visit a neighbouring house to retrieve a lost ball, without the permission of the Duty Rota Supervisor.
Balls which are played over the perimeter fence of the Courts must be retrieved immediately by the Player responsible.
x
Visitors
Each Member may introduce Visitors up to a maximum of six visits per season, on payment of a fee of 30p per visit, and subject to the permission of the Duty Rota Supervisor.
Normally only one Visitor will be permitted on each Court at a time, unless the number of Members wishing to play is such that the Duty Rota Supervisor can waive this limitation. (This rule shall not apply to Club matches.)
Visitors’ Fees are payable to the Duty Rota Supervisor, who should pass them on to the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer as soon as possible.
Breach of Rules
It will be the task of the Supervising Adult to ensure that these rules are observed, and it will be within their discretion to ask Members or other persons to leave the Club premises, if the rules are flagrantly disregarded (see also Clause 2.3).
Persistent or serious contraventions shall be reported as soon as possible to the Management Committee, who, at a properly constituted meeting, will decide whether to suspend a Member or Members concerned, or to take other appropriate action including seeking the cost of repair. Such discretion also extends to cover other persons visiting the Club premises.
