Serving Rounders (cont.) |
THE DUTIES OF A |
|
SUPERVISOR. |
Þ |
To ensure that the serves are in accordance with the Rules of Tennis, and where necessary to act as umpire if any player is clearly over-optimistic as to whether a serve was in or out. |
Þ |
To keep an eye on foot faulting, and to draw this to the attention of any offending player. Even toes must not touch a line, let alone the court, until after the ball has been struck. |
Þ |
To ensure that players move in the right direction on the instruction Move. |
Þ |
To ensure each player has picked up two balls and is ready to serve when their turn arrives, and to hold one or two balls ready to supply any player serving a Let. |
Þ |
To rule on who touched a third mark first with their racquet should there be a dispute. |
Þ |
To regulate the order of the queues, and monitor the behaviour of those waiting in a queue to serve. Should any player fail to heed a clear warning about behaviour, this should be reported immediately to the referee. |
Þ |
To ensure that only players in the bottom Grade take advantage of the concession to serve underarm after bouncing the ball behind the baseline. While bouncing the ball is not allowed by the Rules of Tennis, for absolute beginners this is possibly slightly more desirable than constant abject failure. |
