Serving Rounders |
The Object. To make the greatest progress round the courts by serving successfully, achieving one Serving Rounder for each completed circuit. |
Court Layout. Three marks, such as throw down lines, are required for each serving position on the circuit. One is on the baseline equidistant from each centre mark and singles sideline, the second is behind it halfway to the stop netting, and the third behind the second at the stop netting. |
On the circuit is a control point where players passing in each direction are noted by the referee, and where possible there should be a supervisor in charge of the two serving positions at each end of each court. |
Administration. The game is run on a timed basis by the alternating instructions “Get Ready, Play” and “Stop, and Move”. A steady rhythm should be achieved with 15 seconds between Play and Stop, and 10 seconds between Stop and Play. Players should pick up the balls they need for serving as opportunity occurs. |
Comments. It should be stressed that the game gives serving practice, and there is no virtue in just patting the ball over the net and into the correct service box. Players should serve steadily, concentrating on their technique and striving to improve accuracy and consistency. Serving too fast will inconvenience players at the other end of the court, and power servers should hold themselves in check until they play Sparky Serves. |
